Baldwin IV: The Leper King Who Never Lost — The Story Behind the Design
"His body failed him young. His will never did."
Few kings in history have carried a heavier crown. Baldwin IV was crowned King of Jerusalem in 1174, at just thirteen years old — already knowing he had leprosy, a disease that would slowly take his sight, his hands, and finally his life. What it never took was his courage.
The Boy Who Became King
Baldwin's illness was discovered in childhood: while other boys cried out during rough play, he felt no pain in his arm. His tutor, the chronicler William of Tyre, recognized the terrible sign. Yet the boy was raised as an heir regardless — trained to ride, to rule, and to carry a kingdom whose enemies were closing in from every side.
"A king who could not feel pain taught his kingdom what courage feels like."
Montgisard — The Battle That Made a Legend
In 1177, sixteen-year-old Baldwin rode out with a few hundred knights — including the Templars — against Saladin's vastly larger army. Too weak at times to hold a sword with his failing hand, he was there in the saddle at Montgisard when the Crusader charge shattered Saladin's forces. It was one of the most improbable victories of the entire Crusader era. While he lived, Jerusalem did not fall.
Woven Into Every Thread
Every CalmNestStyle blanket is 100% cotton and truly woven — the design is built directly into the fabric using different colored yarns on a jacquard loom. Nothing is printed, ironed on, or applied afterward. This is why the design never fades, peels, or cracks — it becomes part of the fabric itself.
"The design isn't on the fabric. The design IS the fabric."
Carry the story of the Leper King. Give it as a gift of faith and courage.
